July 18

A mother saw her little boy sitting in a corner of the room, saying, “ABCDEFG.”

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Mom, you told me I should pray, but I have never prayed in my life and I don’t know how. So I gave God the whole alphabet and asked Him to make a good prayer out of it.”

That boy understood a little bit of what Paul says in Romans 8:26—that the Holy Spirit Himself helps us to pray. Yes, He prays in us.

. . . we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.
Romans 8:26

Lord, what a joy that You do the job and together with You we are able to pray and to live for Your honor.
